2019 Chevy Coachmen Freelander Review
Check back soon for a right up review of the 2019 Freelanders by Coachmen, in the 4500 series.
See how it stacks up for your comparison against other Class C models.
The first thing that to talk about with the new 2019 Freelander is not the floor plan but the engine itself. 2019 is Chevy's breakaway from the Kodiak to the new 4500 Silverado's engine but that is in it's work trucks, not the RV's. The Class C Freelander's are desired, for among other reasons, the quieter gasoline engines that are still tough and built for the distance and workload.
Why is this the first on the list of importance thought, maybe besides floor-plan anyways, is because if it was not for the engine then you may as well have gotten a travel trailer.
The Freelander is built starting with the 4500 chassis, and the tried and true engine is still the old 6.0 Liter V8, L96 gasoline engine.
Not the new Diesel 6.6 Liter on the new Silverados. This engine comes in with 324 horsepower and has 57gal fuel tank. The torque comes in 373/420 and a GCWR of 18,500 - 20,000lbs depending on the exact model. The transmission is 6 speed automatic L690. This vehicle's engine is reliable and built perfectly to suit the campers. They reviews show lower maintenance expenses on this Vortec engine than most of the competition. All this is great news for the buyer who has engine maintenance concerns.
In terms of units lengths, from tip to tail, the units full exterior lengths are at 29'9" on the 24FS model and 27'11" on the popular 26DS. The ford line Freelanders are all in longer exterior lengths.
The Ford's have smaller fuel tank capacities despite the longer Chassis but only by a couple of Gallons.
I will highlight features and build differences including length.
See pictures of some of the interiors and get an idea of the different options that they come in.
I will start this and continue through the rest of the week.
