Difference between Freedom Express Ultra Lite and Liberty Edition




 Coachmen travel trailers come in a few different Freedom flavors. Coachmen Freedom Express can be found in the Liberty Edition, Ultra Lite, and Select. There is also a Pilot option that is much smaller in size. For this article the focus will be comparing the two more popular models; the Liberty Edition and the Ultra Lite.

 The Coachmen Freedom Liberty Edition is the flagship series of their travel trailers in the Freedom Express line. All models share a similar look and feel except the Liberty trailers have more luxuries that come standard in it. For an extremely brief summary, The Liberty edition is nice if you do extended camping or want all the bells and whistles, for most basic seasonal camping you can not go wrong with the Ultra Lite and just order the one or two features you really want while forgoing the rest and saving some cash. As a bonus, all of them are built with with Azdel, the newest popular construction technology in the RV industry.

 So what is one major difference, well, first is the fact that, as the name implies, the Ultra Lite, is built lighter. It has been designed to be pulled with most half ton and mid sized SUV where as the Liberty Edition has UVW weights before options starting over 5.4k lbs. where as the Ultra Lites start at about 3.8k lbs. Another noticeable change over is the graphics on the outside and interior decor color scheme as well as the added bedspread and matching pillows in the Liberty. The real convenience/usability difference is that the Liberty edition comes with a Five Point Stabalizing system with Power Tongue Jack. Have not fear though, the Ultra Lite has the ability to be ordered with the Push-button Power Stabilizer Jacks and Power Tongue Jack. So if you can do with out the color design changes and a fireplace that comes standard in all the Liberties (except the 276 RKDS,) than the Ultra Lite might be where you want to end up.

RV Battries when not in use

When your camper does not have a battery disconnect, you have two options to maintain the battery life. Disconnect the battery by removing one, (or both) wires. Install a disconnect switch. The best option is usually to use a battery disconnect switch but if you do not have one it is only a small price and a few different install options to make this happen. There are also many YouTube videos out there that show how this can be done that I do not need to add any but I can link some for you. From blade switches that can be installed on the base trim of the RV with out putting holes in the aluminum or fiberglass walls, to switches that sit on the battery. The main goal of the switch or just unplugging the battery is that it will stop a slow drain on the system and kill any residual voltage loss while dormant.
