Black Water Tank RV

ALL Rv's and Campers have three tanks: Fresh Water, Gray Water, and Black Water. The Black water tank is most often than not the smallest of the tanks. Sometimes it is on par with the Gray Water tank, in terms of capacity, but not always. The Black Water Tank is collects both solids and liquid waste. This waste is collected from the toilet(s) in your camper. This is the only tank that will and should be collecting toilet waste. The waste therefore will be human waste as well as the water to flush and whatever toiletries are needed when using a toilet. RV Black water tanks should only be used with special toilet paper and needs to be maintained properly for sanitary reasons at least. Black water tanks tend to collect less waste than the gray water tanks but not always.

Better to have a bigger Gray water tank or Black water tank

So are you getting ready to purchase a new camper? First time buyers often have a lot of questions and sometimes do not even know what they do not know when purchasing one for the first time. What is the Amperage of the camper, what is the dry weight and is it the same as UVW? Does this camper have fiberglass insulation or Azdel or something different? One question that everyone should get a quick answer to is the difference between Black and Gray Water tanks. Black water tank is the tank that catches the waste water from the toilet. Gray water tanks are all other waste water not flushed down the toilet. Gray water tanks usually consist of sink water that, while may be dirty, does not count as hazardous biological waste. More often than not the Gray water tank will be larger than the black water tank. In either case, you should plan on taking your tanks out empty and filling them at the destination and emptying them before you leave.

There is also a Pilot option that is much smaller in size. For this article the focus will be comparing the two more popular models; the Liberty Edition and the Ultra Lite.  The Coachmen Freedom Liberty Edition is the flagship series of their travel trailers in the Freedom Express line. All models share a similar look and feel except the Liberty trailers have more luxuries that come standard in it. For an extremely brief summary, The Liberty edition is nice if you do extended camping or want all the bells and whistles, for most basic seasonal camping you can not go wrong with the Ultra Lite and just order the one or two features you really want while forgoing the rest and saving some cash.
